Lighting Fires for Homeschoolers

Homeschool thoughts

Hi everyone,

I hope that this year has been off to a flying start ( I don’t mean with erasers and pencils flying in tension ;) ). I know that around here we have been very busy trying to keep up with all we have to do. I was wondering what the rest of you are doing this year. Are you trying something new? Did you do something different? What about the kids…….are they needing something new this year? Do you have any new problems?

For us it seems like we are starting to finally settle in…although I need a little more organization since I am back in school too. My son has been busy learning about Holland………….. OH by the Way, this Friday night at the public library here in West Plains we will be having a meeting to discuss what our kids have learned about Holland. If you would like to join us let me know. We change the country every Month. I would love to see lots of kids there. It will be so much fun. My youngest has sprouted learning wings this year and thinks he can do anything that brother can…..hahahaha. Sometimes this is challenging to big brother…..other times it drives him nuts. Anyway. Share what you have learned or what you are doing that is successful with your family. If you have any prayer requests jump in and let us know. Have a blessed day full of God’s grace.

Sincerely, Jeana

School has started for most of us and hopefully it is going smothly for everyone. I want to personally thank Jeana for helping out with the blog area of our website! Now we need YOU to write in.

I want to encourage all of you that can to come to the Silver Dollar City Homeschool Day! Cindy has taken great steps to make things easier and better for everyone to attend! She has gone way out of her way to make this a very special time for everyone! Now it is our turn to show our appreciation.

The information can be found on this site at  http://match-inc.org/sdc.html.  The information about the event is in pdf and you will find a free download link on the left side towards the top of the page.  On the information part about the HS Day (Oct. 6) you will also find information about the different hotels that are giving special discounts for that weekend just for us.  Again, Cindy went out of her way to get this information and discount for us.  When you arrive at the city MAKE SURE TO CHECK IN AT THE HORSE SHOE!  You will receive your info for the big day so you don’t miss out.

We have been asked about purchasing a one day ticket instead of the two day pass.  You will spend a whole lot more money if you buy the one day pass!  They have given us a really big cut.  As far as enough to do in two days, you will find a whole lot to do, not just the rides, which the kids love to do, but just enjoying the festival going on during that time and all the special historical shops to visit and see how things were done in the “olden” days.

We look forward to seeing many of you there!  May God bless each of you and your family as this new school year starts off!

HI ya’ll,

We are a homeschooling family of 4.  I have 2 boys…….one ds age  7 and one ds age 4.  We have been hsing 3 years (if you count preschool stuff).  We started on August 1st this year and have desided to do 6 weeks on 2 off.  That way we go all year round and forget less.  We are having soooooooooo much fun;).  The boys are learning all kinds of new and exciting things.  I enjoy lots of different learning styles and we are varied with our types of study.  Our last big project was a lapbook called all about me.  We studied about our family (including extended) and what each of us liked and why as well as our bodies.  I am also apart of several support groups which I’ll share about another time and we love to get together with other hsers.

We are also involved in the W.P. library group that studies other countries.  The topic of this month is Holland or the Netherlands.  If you would like find out more information let me know.  I would be glad to  share this with you.    I am off to do some more reading for my classes.

Have a great day,   Jeana;)
