Lighting Fires for Homeschoolers

Homeschool thoughts

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! We had a great time being together with our two young children this year. Our family came down with the flue so we had to be alone but we all enjoyed our time together.

One of the looked forward times in our family tradition is reading Luke 2, this year our daughter wanted to read it. Then we put a candle on top of Baby Jesus birthday cake and sang happy birthday. It was such a delight to watch our son’s little face light up and sing “Happy Birthday”. Then we opened the few gifts we had and enjoyed watching the children play with their toy a piece.

As we look toward 2008 that will be here on Tuesday, I reminded that we can’t start a new time together and do things that we wished we had done this past year. No I’m not talking about resolutions that you know you will never be able to keep but the little things that you would like to do more this year that you didn’t do this past year.

Look for the small things that are fun to do with your family. Have a family night, adopt an older person outside of your family that your kids can draw pictures and make cards for that will mean a lot to both your children and to that person you adopt. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to have wonderful times together and memories made together.

Slow down and enjoy the flowers. Take things a little easier this year and try to be more patient with your kids and husband. We always look forward to the first little flowers that pop up saying spring is on the way. We call them God’s little surprises.

We hope that each of your will enjoy the holiday time together on Tuesday. Spend some time just as a family and getting to “know” each other better.

May God bless each of your richly!
